The concept and the rise of pallet networks has revolutionised the supply chain within the transport industry over the last 20 years. This amazing innovation has come at a time when manufacturing has been reduced and service industries increased. Customers no longer wish to place large stock orders because of financial restraints. This change in the market place has allowed the pallet networks to evolve and become an intrinsic part of the ethos of modern day business.
In March 2005 we became a full trading Member of TPN, The Pallet Network. Their vision of the future perfectly matched our own ambitions, allowing our business to flourish and grow with the network.
We are now part of a collaborative logistics family of over 110 independent transport companies, all Members of TPN, located at strategic points within the British Isles. Southern Ireland is equally well supported by TPN Ireland. Their matrix of over 30 depots allows TPN to boast one of the most comprehensive pallet distribution networks in Ireland.
We realised from the inception of GC Distribution Ltd that we had to become a member of a network to offer our clients the best possible service for their transport needs. It is widely appreciated that in today’s economic climate most companies in our field have similar pricing policies so the emphasis had to be on service.
Service, therefore, is paramount to our growth and customer satisfaction.
We sincerely believe that our business has grown because of our clients’ loyalty and our approach to handling their business. When problems are encountered, we make every effort to ensure we resolve them with little or no inconvenience to our clients.
TPN and its Members have to perform to very high standards as set out in their Code of Conduct and business practice.
We have invested in a fleet of aerodynamic double deck trailers to help safeguard our client’s goods from the risk of damage caused by over stowing on conventional trailers. This action has been especially important with our drive to reduce emissions for our ISO 14001 accreditation.
The network model tries to attain at least a 78% cargo fill which again reduces the amount of vehicles on the road.
Insurance is often an issue that can cause a great deal of animosity and to this end, TPN have supported their Members by securing extended RHA Conditions of Carriage, allowing our customers to benefit from an increased liability cover of £1300 per tonne to £5000 per tonne. TPN have their own in-house claims handling team, responsible for processing all claims in a timely manner. They have their own charter that sets a target for settlement of claims within 90 days, where feasible. Like its Members, TPN appreciates the need to resolve claims swiftly in order to minimise client inconvenience.
